I just did a clean format and install of Windows ME I preciously had 98, I have a PIII 500 MHz with 256 Megs of Ram and a sound blaster live and 4 Hard drives Partitioned in to 6, and a home network with two other computers. When I start my computer and log on a My Computer window will open up for each drive and each mapped drive on my system. Strangely enough if I hold the left shift key while logon as if they were in the start up group they will not, but they are not listed in the startup group under start programs. Nor can I find any reference in the registry or msconfig also if I log off then on again they will not open just on a reboot. I checked the network setting in client for Microsoft Network and tried both network logon options with no luck. Any suggestion would be appreciated

Joe, There is a setting in the network properties for the TCP-IP setting for your NIC card, where you set the IP Address. there is a check box says something like "detect connection to network media". Try unchecking this to see if it stops. It was never there with 98SE and below. HTH tazman

Are you running Norton firewall? If so that's what's causing it. go to:

Hope this works.

This may not be a factor in your problem, but Windows ME has a sleep function.
With a ATX power supply if you just shut off the computer at the switch on front, Windows ME does not shut down improperly. It goes into a sleep mode instead, and when you reboot it will open at the application you were last using right where you left it. But when you shutdown by selecting shut down and clicking OK, Windows shuts down.
So, I am speculating that the way Windows is shut down is affecting the occurrance of your problem.
