Comment: My cd rom won't read any sort of disk. When I put a cd in the cd rom it starts to read it and then stops. I've tried opening it with RUN but it tells me there is no disk there. I've been into System Properties and it tells me the cd rom is there and working. I have done nothing to the cd rom for it to stop working, how do I fix it?

Reply: (edit)hi, do you have any spare cd rom.from my experience, most proberly the reader in the cd rom causing the problem. System only can detect that the device is running but not the component inside.

Reply: (edit)hello goto device manager.and remove the drive from device manager and reboot. if that dont work do a registry search for NOIDE and delete any found. if these dont work you will need an m.e boot disk and a cd to put in the drive. reboot with m.e boot disk and cd in drive. than at the a:dir d: /p click enter it depends on what your cd rom drive letter is and it moves by 1 position in dos. so if directory dont show up first try try one letter up and or down from its usall letter. if you cant get a directory of cd contents in dos than you can try removeing cd-rom from computer open it up and veary carefully with alchaol and quetip clean the lasser lens. have a nice day
