I am running windows me on a 1.2 gig computer with a 56k fax modem. I use the modem after starting the computer. After logging off. I must restart the computer before I can access the modem again. I have reinstall the modem drivers and I have reinstall windows me. So far nothing seems to work. I get a blue screen with an error message but when I restart the computer I can access the modem. What's going on. I tried to get someone at microsoft to talk to me but they want 35 dollars a session. I tried to get someone to talk to me a Micronpc but they want 4 dollars a minute. I just can't seem to get this problem solved. I know someone on this forum has the answer. I have seen you folk answer much more difficult problems then this one. Thanks Dan
if the windows ME was factory installed by Micronpc they are handling the waranty and are not supposed to charge you for that. Call them, (you will need to tell them the serial number of your computer) tell them that you are recording the phone conversation for technical and legal purposes (and record it!), if it will not get resolved to your satisfaction then write certified letters to your state attorney general office, better busines bureau, federal trade commision and any consumer protection agency you find in your phone book.... c.c. all these letters to Micron PC and to microsoft - if you "upgraded" to windows ME and have purchased the upgrade then microsoft is obliged to handle the OS waranty issues... again call them and record the conversation - Also give more info about your computer... did you change any of the componentes, operating system... did you have this problem from the start or did it developped after you did something to it.... manufacturers usually dont deny the warany on a new computer... and if there is no compelling reason they will not deny the waranty if you are recording the phone conversation or will not do it in writing... just handle it as any other kind of lemon Regards Miro
I had a similar problem when I used an internal modem. A modem initialization string solved my problem, might fix yours. Go to START-PROGRAMS-ACCESSORIES-DIALUPNETWORKING, right click the connection being used, click PROPERTIES-CONFIGURE-CONNECTION-ADVANCED. In the Extra Settings box type in "&D2", without the quotation marks. I use "L0M1W1&D2" )that's a zero) The strings for each modem may be different. Do a search for modem initialization string for more info. The ampersand d2 causes the modem to hang up, I think. It seemed to help mine.
