Hi,

I wanted to join up with iTunes and / or Napster to legally download music. Maybe I have a conscience. But it seems that they only work with win2000 SP3 or win XP.
Is this the end for ME or can I find another source. I am very happy with ME ( sobig and blaster worm avoidance etc)and always found it to be reliable.
It would be a shame now to upgrade because these music sellers do not support it.
Is there likely to be support for ME soon ?

Jay

I thought Napster had minimum requirements were for Media Player and Internet Explorer. These requirements are standard components of 2000/XP. If you have upgraded to these levels of Media Player and IE, then Napster should work with ME.

Napster will only install on XP and 2000. Not on NT, 95 98 or ME.

Write support at napster.com if you want ME to be supported. If enough people write, maybe they will do it.

I have WinMe, too, and I've noticed the same thing with many of the music sites you can use to buy music. It's really upsetting to me, but, yes, it seems like a lot of these sites just focus on Win2000 and XP. I've actually tried e-mailing some of them to complain or inquire as to if/when they were going to get it working on other OS's, but to no avail.

Since I'm so unhappy with ME, at this point, anyway...I'm just going to install Win2000 on my lap top whenever I get my issues with ME and my hardware resolved.

For you, I think it will depend on which you want more--to be able to use those sites or to keep WinMe. Personally, I think that if you can find a cost efficient way to put Win2000 on your computer, you should...especially since it will probably get to the point where most companies all any kind will just start making things only to the benefit of 2000, XP and later OS's and to the disadvantage of systems older than those. I do advise staying away from XP, personally, because everyone I know has problems with XP in terms of all their old programs, software, etc not being compatible with it.

Mind you, some of these sites/programs will work with WinMe, but the sites/programs that I keep hearing the best things about (in terms of how many songs and what kind they have for the price) won't. Also, I have read that you can operate more than one OS on your PC...? If that's true, you might want to look into how to do that.

I can relate to your frustration ,I purchased a magazine on troubleshooting problems in Windows .I assumed it covered all versions of Windows ,I was wrong .It had info on Win 3.1,Win95,Win98,98SE, and WinXP ? No mention on WinMe ,WTF ? Is this O/
S not used by more people then people still using Win3.1? Are they just assuming the fixes that work in 98 will work in WinMe ? Just because the guys writing this troubleshooting magazine may think WinMe is a terrible O/S is no reason to ignore it. Weird stuff !

Thanks Guys,

that touched a nerve. I know there have been a lot of complaints about ME. I had a crash two years ago - but that was probably due to a beta version of Norton than ME. There is now no Norton on my PC. Ever since I upgraded RAM to 512MB ( partially by accident) I have had no problems at all with ME.
So, what to do. If I upgrade to 2000 or XP thats going to cost an arm and a leg - $100 to $300. Thats gonna mean I have to really love to buy a lot of songs for the privilege of a clear conscience and being legal. I have no idea how to upgrade to 2000 in a "cost effective" manner as one reply suggested.

I'll email Napster and iTunes to lobby for this. I also did some searches on Windows users. In the corporate world most are not using XP. A lot are still using 98 and 95. At home, XP is prevalent but look at this board and compare the number of messages on XP and on ME. XP has four times more messages - maybe ME has more problems than XP, but I doubt it.

We are still a significant minority. ME is still only three years old - just.

One upset Jay.
