Did you archive the installation and reinstall it before the onset of the problem?
I have encountered a problem in Windows ME that seems to indicate Microsoft has a hidden archive bit that prevents the copying of certain files. My software gives the message "Error: could not open output file."
Then when you reinstall the files you have backed up the files you have error messages on are completely missing from the reinstallation from backup.
Of course, your problem is probably something else, but I decided to guess and ask?

Linda - is this an upgrade from 98? if it is, try uninstalling the picture it software and reinstalling it.

it sounds like something may have got corrupted during the install.

when does the error occur?

I put windows Me on. Then that program.
I all ready uninstalled and re-installed it.
It occurs when I click on it. I'll try and re-install it again. Who knows it might work.

Hey, clear out your startup group. Go to start, run, "msconfig" (w/o the quotes), put the bullet next to selective startup and uncheck Process autoexec.bat file, Process Config.sys files, and Load Startup Group. Click on OK, then restart, and see if the error

To correct msvcrt.dll:??_u@yapaxi@z,

Create a directory named C:\Fix on the C Drive
(This can be done simply by going to My Computer and double clicking on
the C:DRIVE and then going to "File", "New", "Folder")

Copy the msvcrt.dll from your Windows 98 CD Rom to C:\Fix

Then reboot your computer in MS-Dos mode

Then rename the corrupt file on your C Drive, located at C:\Windows\System to msvcrtA.dll

The command for renaming at the dos prompt will look like this on the screen:

C:\Windows\System\rename msvcrt.dll msvcrtA.dll

Now copy the "Good File" from the C:\Fix directory to C:\Windows\System

The command to copy at the dos prompt should look like this on the screen:

C:\Fix\copy msvcrt.dll c:\windows\system

From here reboot your computer and it should work.

My problem with that file in Windows ME has been that periodically Word 2000 shuts down on me, saying that "MS Word has caused an error in MSVCRT.DLL." Then it changes my normal.dot file. This happened on not one but two completely different Pentium IVs with Windows ME. It doesn't occur with Windows 98. I'm told it may be a corrupt MSVCRT.DLL file, but it seems strange to me that that file would corrupt immediately on two different systems. Any ideas? (Oh, and we've checked for viruses.)

If you really want to fix this problem, then, go to www.jasc.com Find "Technical Support" and search for msvcrt.dll, etc.etc
Print out solution with excellent instructions and your back in business. None of these other suggestions work, so, don't waste your time on them.
