How do i setup my msn.com email address with outlook express.
I found the pop & smtp info to enter from mskb. Problem is when OE is checking mail i get prompted with the msn signin box asking me for my member id and password. Im not a member of msn anymore, i was able to keep the email address. I click ok and again am prompted to enter my member id. I can access this email account at hotmail.com with no problems.

I dont have and have never had MSN isp software installed.

This info refers to MS Outlook but follow the steps anyway. Hope this helps you.

If you need to create the MSN account manually, use the following steps.

Configuring Outlook with the Internet E-mail Service
To configure Outlook after installing MSN with a Post Office Protocol (POP3) mail server, follow these steps:
Start Outlook, and on the Tools menu, click Accounts .

In Internet Accounts click Add , and then click Mail . The Internet Connection Wizard will guide you through the account setup process.

NOTE : All server and address entries are typed in lowercase.

In Display Name , type the name you would like to have appear on all mail messages you send. Click Next .

In E-mail Address, type the address MSN has provided you.

Your e-mail address usually takes the form of a combination of your first and last name and the name of your ISP, separated by the at (@) sign and periods.
For example, John Doe uses MSN. In this case, MSN may assign an e-mail address of johnd@MSN.COM. Click Next .

Under E-mail Server Names , type the information provided by MSN, following these steps:

Select your mail server type in the "My incoming mail server is a server" list.

The Post Office Protocol (POP3) server is the default option. The POP3 server holds your mail before you download it to your computer. This is the most
common type of mail retrieval protocol used with Internet mail and is the type used by MSN.

Type your incoming mail server in the Incoming Mail (POP3 or IMAP) server box. The incoming mail server name for MSN is:
pop3.email.msn.com

Type the outgoing mail server in the Outgoing mail (SMTP) server box. The outgoing mail server name for MSN is:
smtp.email.msn.com or secure.email.msn.com if you are connected to the internet through a LAN, DSL, Cable modem, or Satellite connection.

In Internet Mail Logon , configure your account information by following these steps:

Type your POP Account Name.

This information is your Internet Mail Server account name. Your ISP may call this your Mailbox name. In some cases the Account name may be that part of
the e-mail address to the left of the at (@) sign.

Type your Password. The password is your key to your mail server. Generally, you define your own password. MSN may have assigned an initial password; however,
you should change it as soon as possible. Click Next .

NOTE : MSN requires Secure Password Authentication (SPA). Click to select, Log on using Secure Password Authentication .

Under Choose Connection Type , click to select the method you will use to send and receive mail from the following list.

Connect Using My Local Area Network (LAN):
If you are accessing the Internet through your existing network connection, click Connect using my local area network . Your network configuration must
support access to the Internet. This type of connection also includes DSL, Cable modems, and Satellite connections. Some networks use proxies and firewalls
to control Internet access. Please see your network administrator for more details. Proceed to step 8.
I Will Establish My Internet Connection Manually:
If you establish your Internet connection initially using a Dial-Up Connection or third-party dialer so that you can run several Internet programs at once,
click I will establish my Internet connection manually . If you choose this technique, you must terminate the connection manually. Proceed to step 8.
Connect Using My Phone Line:
If you are using your phone line and modem connection to access your e-mail, click Connect using my phone line . Type the number for your local MSN connection.

Click Next and then Finish to close the wizard.

I have msn and got the same pop up for about a week. I contacted msn and they said it was their problem and they were working on it. They must have fixed it because it went away and I haven't had problems with it. It may just be a temporary thing with them. Hope so..

Is might be possible to change your MSN/Hotmail account from msn.com to hotmail.com. don't forget the all important .Net Passport scam, you have one don't you? Hmmmmmm. gotcha.
Sorry to sound bitter, I'm 11 months into a 12 tour and looking forward to semi freedom.
Configuring a web based mail server to OE
is not easy ( the above post is right on)
specially so with msn, earthlink not so bad.
lol

Ive set up the account exactly as described above. I have 11 email accounts set up with outlook from hotmail to my domains catchall working correctly.

I am a former MSN customer who was allowed to keep the MSN email address. At this point i assume this isnt something that normally happens and the fact i am no longer an MSN (as my isp) subscriber is the reason i receive the error.
