Hi,

I have window me and I use Outlook express to checking email. Recently, I got an error message when open Outlook express. The Msimn message error popped up with "msimn has caused an error in Msoe.dll". I wonder how to fix it? Thanks.

I just had that problem. To fix it I deleted all the .dbx files out of the Outlook Express folder so I'm guessing one of them was corrupted. I use IMAP so its no big deal. If you need the data I suppose you could move all .dbx files to a different folder and copy them back one at a time and run OE until it crashes.

I have the same problem. I went to the microsoft web site, but it didn't have the instructions to fix this particular problem.

My problem occurred when I tried to copy all my .dbx folders from one computer to another. After I copied them onto the second computer, I couldn't open Outlook Express, and I got the "MSIMN has caused..." message. I tried deleting all of the .dbx files, but I got a message that said I couldn't.

Now what?

An article on Microsofts site states that if any of the .dbx files are set to 'read only' this will give the msimn....msoe.dll error message. This seems to be the case when you back up your .dbx files and import them back in. To overcome this simply right-click the file and choose properties then clear the 'read only' checkbox. The files are hard to find but follow this path and you should find them (substitute * for your hard drive letter)*:\windows\application data\identities\{lots of numbers and letters}\microsoft\outlook express. According to Microsoft's knowledge base, only the 'archive' box should be ticked. Most problems can be solved by simply typing the error message into your search engine, I guarantee you won't be the only one with the problem you are experiencing. It never fails to work for me ;-)

I had the same problem and after five hours of searching and trying to contact hotmail, I thought I would download internet explorer and one of the options on the download was a custom download which permitted me to download outlook express alone.

I expected to lose all my addresses but to my surprise, after the download was completed and run and I clicked on outlook express, they were all still there.
