Ok, My problem strts by me trying to connect a better power supply on my comp. Everything was just find and dandy before this but when I connected the new p.s., my cd-rw and onboard sound dissappeared. I checked the bios and everything, It even says the sound is enabled.
I took my computer apart and even replaced the new p.s. with my old one. No hope at all. I loaded the new drivers and for some reason when installing the drivers the comp locks up. yikes. Everything else is working fine. I called the mobo manufacturer, which is MSI by the way, and they said there might be a short somewhere. So I cleared my cmos with the jumper and still no hope. PLEASE HELP.

i have a:
1gig Athlon t.b.
40gb western digital h.d.
384 p133 sdram
msi k7t turbo2 mobo
geforce 2 gts
dsl
250 watt p.s.
(i was trying to connect a 300watt p.s.)
windows me

Not sure what you mean that your CD-RW disappeared? Is there a hole in your puter now? What do you see in "Device Manager"? In System Information / Components / Multimedia / CDROM what do you see? Also, Components / Problem Devices what is there? Also, in Sys Info selct "Tools" Drop-down and DirectX Diagnostics what does that get you?
Below is a possible solution to mmsystem error obtained on the Net:

PLEASE DO THIS AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!!!

Here Is the Ultimate answer. There are other soultions but this is what worked for me after I called my computer's helpline:
When starting your computer, Immediately press F5 so that windows enters safe mode. Then go to control Panel and open 'system'. In system you will find device manager - under this open 'sound video and game controllers'. Then under this REMOVE all drivers (click on each driver, then click on remove). Don't worry, this wont do any damage. Then Restart you computer. When Windows starts, it will automatically detect New HARDWARE and itself install the necessary software. I tries this and it worked efficiently. I'm sure it works for most computers. GOOD LUCK!

I've got my onboard sound to work now it's just the cd-rom drive. It's gone and I don't know what to do.
