I'm back again!
Next question. I down loaded several Start Up Lists from different sites to help me out with what I can safely uncheck in the MSCONFIG Startup panel.

One that I can not seem to find anywhere on any list downloaded is called:

MSConfig Reminder......and the path for that is given as :
C:\Windows\System\msconfig.exe/reminder

Any clues.......anyone?

Regards

i got this from a newsgroup: (google search for groups)it is what i thought it was when i first read your question:

MSConfigReminder c:\windows\system\msconfig.exe /reminder All Users
HKLM\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

This is an entry that appears when you uncheck an item in the Startup group,
and will disappear if on the next reboot you select the option to not be
reminded that you are running in Selective Startup mode.
so just check the box that you get when you start up to stop reminding you that you are using selective startup and it should go away
good luck

If you forgot where it is, and since you know what the download name is, simply go to the site and redownload it. It will ask you if you want to replace the old one, but now you know where it is and you can open it or replace it. To always know where your downloads are, make a download file, and send all downloads into it. To see all the programs and control at start up go to PC Magazine and download startupcop from their downloads, it is free and great program. One thing to remember is it is easy to go back to msconfig and change it, if you find you need something at startup. I only have sys, firewall, antivirus(associated programs like script blocker) and Explorer on my checked in msconfig startup.

Hi Guys, thanks to all, and yes I do get the message advising me that I am in Selective Start up, and yes that entry does appear in my start up group, but what I really want to know is:

What does it do?

Is it safe to uncheck it as I wish to downsize the amount of programs that are loaded at Startup.

Regards

Janset, when you boot up the next time and the reminder pops up. Check you don't want to see it again or something to that effect. And it should disappear from the "Startup" in "msconfig".

It's just a reminder to let you know that you are running in selective start up. Is all.
