When I try to access start-up running msconfig I get a message saying Windows cannot find msconfig or that another programme cannot find a system file. What can I do please?

Please explain how do you try to get to
msconfig.
Is it then then type in msconfig and then click OK?

Are you trying to get to "msconfig"
by clicking "START" then "RUN"
and typing in msconfig and then clicking OK?

Click on start and goto search and then for files or folders

search for files name msconfig.*

That should tell you if the file is someplace on your hard drive.

Search produces no results for msconfig.exe

I've just tried a Google Search as well and find there are sites with downloads of the msconfig.exe file for 95 and 98. Says to put file in the Windows/System folder. I don't have the original Install Disc of ME to get it there. Worth a try?

There should also be a copy of all the Windows ME files in the CAB files. Check in C:\Windows\Options\Intall or \CABS and look for files like WIN_##.CAB.

Plenty of Win_ CAB files in Install. Don't know anything about CAB files JackG. How would I find the former msconfig among them. Do I open each one and look? Would it not have shown up in Seach if it was there? Just interested to know.
