I would like to download the word processing part of MS Word as it was on my computer and I have inadvertantly deleted it. I am just learning about computers so hope I can do this.

What do you mean by you "deleted" it? Did you just delete the shortcut from the desktop? Or did you actually browse the hard drive and delete the entire folder?
You may want to do a search on your hard drive by going to start>>search and looking for Word or I believe the file that starts word is called winword.exe. Try to open it from that executable(the file that starts the program: winword.exe) by doubleclicking on it. If it works, you can place a shortcut to Word on your desktop by right-clicking on winword.exe and choosing sendto>>desktop so it would be convenient.
If you did happen to delete the entire folder, you may need some help here because there are still entries in the registry that point to that program. Some programs will let these entries be overwritten by a reinstall of the program and some will not. Word is pretty touchy and generally needs to be totally removed from the registry before it can be reinstalled.
Remember... if you ever want to uninstall something completely from your computer, you want to, first, seek out the program's own uninstaller or, alternatively, go to start>>settings>>control panel>>add/remove programs and uninstall from there. If you delete things willy nilly you only get the stuff you see... not the stuff you don't.
If your computer came with several recovery disks, it is possible that you have a software recovery disk. If this is the case, your system manufacturer's tech support may be able to help you reinstall this program. It might be a good idea to give them a call if you cannot fix it on your own.
