MS Outlook & Multi-boot O/S

Hi,

I have my hard disk partitioned into 3 seperate logical drives.

On the first (C:) I have Win ME

On the second (D:) I have Win XP Pro

The third (E:) is just a back up / storage drive.

Both O/S's are full installs, NOT upgrades.

As I have two O/S's installed, I have a multi boot system.

I know that generally, if you want to use a program on both O/S's then you need to install the said program onto each one.

On the whole, that's fine.

However, I am trying to configure Outlook XP so that regardless of which O/S I boot into I can use Outlook to send & recieve my mail.

The trouble is, having it installed twice means that I only see e-mails & addresses created whilst logged into one O/S.

Let me try and explain:

If I log into Win XP and check my mail with Outlook, The Inbox, Outbox, Sent Items, etc only contain messages which I sent or recieved whilst logged into XP (Since all the files are on the XP partition). I can not access the messages in Outlook that were sent whilst logged into ME.

Similarly

If I log into ME I can only see messages sent & recieved whilst I've been logged into Win ME (Since this install of Outlook is on the ME partition).

Both installations have been configured correctly as far as the accounts are concerned and both installations work perfectly. Just that I don't get to see the messages from the other O/S.

I then tried uninstalling MS Outlook from BOTH O/S's and just installing it on to ONE of the partitions.

It works fine on that partition, but if I try and copy the "Shortcut to Outlook" onto the other partition, then boot into that O/S it says it's unable to run the program because it is not installed.

ARRRGGHHH !!!!!

I know WHAT the problem is, I'm just unaware of how to cure it.

Basically, I need to get all of Outlook's data files into ONE COMMON Location which can be accessed from both the ME boot partition AND and the XP boot partition.

As I use both O/S's frequently I would really like to be able to set it up and pull this one off as I really don't want to have to keep logging off and switching O/S's every time I want to check my mail.

I just hope someone out there can help me.

Appologies if this has become a somewhat lengthy post but I wanted to provide as much info as I possibly could about what I'm trying to achieve and what I've already tried.

Many thanks in advance

Simon

Hi Maybe.

Not that I am aware of.

Explorer wise, all files are accessible on any of the drives since they are all local disc drives.

None of the files are hidden, restricted, etc.

If I have Outlook XP installed on ME and then boot into XP, if I then try to run Outlook from XP either by copy & pasting the shortcut from the ME Start Menu or by going through the original install path and running Outlook from there, I get an error message that it can't run Outlook because it is not installed on Windows XP.

Which leads me back to my original problem of installing Outlook XP onto my Win XP drive and not being able to share the inbox, out box, etc. between the 2 O/S's.

Thanks for the suggestion.

This is bugging me now !

I'm sure it's possible somehow.

Simon
