My friends Windows Me computer displays the following message when turned on:
MS DOS Prompt
Specified command search directory bad
Too many parameters
C:\Windows>
The system will still allow her to search web pages etc. When she tried to restore to Last Known Good Condition the cursor froze. She shut the system down, but the warning still appears on restart. What could be the cause of this problem and how can it be remedied?

Seems like there may be something peculiar in the autoexec.bat - wouldn't hurt to check (& disable) with msconfig.

While that is the likely cause of the DOS error messages, there may well be (as yet undetermined) Windows issues. Spyware/adware/virus etc. is always a good thing to check for

Computers in the future may have only 1,000 vacuum tubes and perhaps only weigh 1 1/2 tons.

you should install win98se or winxp or win2000 on that machine instead. Otherwise just toss it in the dumpster and put it out of its misery.
