My mouse stops working shortly after start up. Most times the computer freezes up as will
try a different mouse driver,logitech.com has software that works with most mice, I use the driver for mouseman+ ,it has options for using a wheel mouse. and has solved many problems with mice.

Does it work in safe mode?
To boot into safe mode, hold down the control key on bootup. You should get a boot menu. Choose #3 safe mode.
If the mouse works in safe mode, the mouse lock up is most likely just a symptom of something else going on. Something running in the background is broken.
