monitor won't come up

got a dell, out of warranty, cpu comes on everything starts up like it ought to inside but they little light on the monitor stays yellow. there is no video, well one might say it is the video card, tried another, it is agp so i tried another agp didn't work, tried pci, didn't work, right b/f it starting doing this i took a memory chip out and all the extra cards b/f it was acting funny, but since then i have put them back and it still does this. i can't try new memory b/c i guess its pc800 or something and i don't have any. any suggestion? oh yeah already reseated the cpu chip.

that problemsounds similar to the problem i was originally having back in december. check if when you have black screen, with yellow monitor light ctrl+alt+del will bring up a screen or if you can restart thet way. if so, safe mode right after, if you are able to get video, check your bootlog.pvt to see what didn't load. my system started doing that too, then i had system crashes over and over. ive been able to restore all except my color is still 16, and any driver i add ,gives black screen. if i knew what i know now, when the problem started, i probably would have been able to fix it. good luck!

yes i have tried another monitor, didn't work. if i hit crt+alt+del i still see nothing. its like nothing is going to the monitor from the computer.

I had that problem a while back. I replaced the power supply. That seemed to work pretty well. Also try shutting all the power off when you cycle the computer. At your surge protector. Let it sit for about a minute and then turn it all back on. That also worked well for me. good luck.
