Hello
My ViewSonic E651 has devoloped a fault. Every now and then the monitor flickers purple or green or stays purple for a while. Other times it's fine. What could be wrong? This is very annoying as it's extremely difficult to read when it's bright magenta!
What could I do to fix it?

Thanks for your help.
Dale

What kind of video card do you have? What are your other specs? On mine, I had to jump the cmos and for some reason that worked. . .

Other things to try:
- System restore
- Boot into safe mode
- Reinstall windows

This really sounds like a monitor problem , if you have access to a different monitor I would try that , if not maybe you can take it to a friends and see if it happens on a different computer .

I wouldn't recommend above.

"Every now and then the monitor flickers purple or green or stays purple for a while."

Disconnect and reconnect the monitor cable to the back of the computer. Sometimes the connector can get "dirty." The monitor cable may even just be lose. This is the most common problem.

Try the monitor on another computer, does the problem stay with the monitor?

Last step, try a new video card in the computer.

It may be that there is an internal problem in the monitor and in that case you need a new monitor as it is rarely worth it to fix most monitors (there are exceptions, of course).

See if the monitor is under warranty. My friend had a bad three year old Gateway monitor and they gave him a new monitor, no charge.

Rock on!

Jiggling the cable about seems to temporaririly fix it but the fault always returns. The connector is firmly plugged in and screwed in and I have tried reconnecting and cleaning it.
My friend just told me if monitor cables get bent a little, the tiny wires on the outside of the bend tend to snap. Is this true? Is it worth taking the monitor to be fixed or is it a new one?

Something went wrong there - here's a repost.

I'd try replacing the cable first. I had a problem with the monitor going from white to yellow to offwhite and replacing the cable fixed that. If your monitor's under warranty lots of times, they will replace the cable for free.

Have you use another or new mon. cable? If the problem still exist maybe its the monitor
with loose solder on RGB potentiometers, try
taking out to service center.

I think my cable is moulded into the monitor - how can I replace it?

Thanks for your help
