I have just formatted my hard disc and reinstalled Windows Me. Unfortunately I can no longer access the Internet in the normal manner since the Modem isn't responding. The only way I can bring it to life is through Super Terminal. I type atdt,press enter (a double click is heard) and close the programme. The Modem (Conexant HCF PCI) then functions. Accessing Modem Properties in the Control Panel reveals that it passes the Diagnostics Test and I also have had the message that the Modem is working properly. All very odd. Can anyone out there solve this problem for me? Thank you in anticipation of your help.

snewcombe, SWAG, sounds to me like you must have erased the driver or settings for your modem during the format process and replaced it with one that is similar, but different. It may be working properly and still not be the one you require. I'd see if there's another available either from the mfgr. or your ME disc or one of the .cab files. You might also wanna make sure your settings are correct. HTH. Ed in Texas.

Did you reinstall your motherboard drivers after the format and reinstall of Windows? If not, you will need to do so and also reinstall your modem drivers, if you have a disc for them.
