Comment:

In windows ME, my Modem is shown to be in COM 3 in modem properties, yet in device manager, only COM 1 is shown under ports, with no modem shown.
Also, IRQ 5 is shown to be modem AND Sound device.
How do I correct this please?

You did not say whether modem works. If it works, leave it alone, the settings are ok.

Thanks Al,
Yes, my modem works OK,slow in dialling out, but otherwise OK. I will take your advice and leave well alone.
Many thanks.

i think that's normal. mine is the same, under ports i have listed COM1 & LTP1. In device manager my modem is on COM3 under MSFMODEMWDM. As the old saying goes " if it aint broke , dont fix it"

I have a similiar problem except my modem doesn't work. My old modem didn't work as it got burnt out in an electrical storm. I have a new one that works fine in 98 - once I install ME it says my modem isn't responding. Any ideas?

I have a similar problem in ME with my modem ie modem is on com3, but comms port is com1
but my modem doesn't work. I am working from my other machine at the moment so the problem may be the reverse of the above

I would appreciate any help from someone who knows how to fix this
