Heres the system:
ECS k7VZA motherboard w/ via kt833 chipset.
AMD 1 GIG / 266FSB T-Bird chip
300W athlon app. power
256 meg memory
plenty of heatsink / fan / thermal grease
Asus V7100 agp video
Award BiosEverything works great except that the post reports the CPU as a 750Mhz instead of the 1 Gig that I know it is. Of course I thought it was a bios setting, but I can not find a setting for it. I do have one for "frequency", but I have no idea which one to set it to. It is not straightforward like "1 gig" "1.2 gig", it is like "3.3 + .005%" etc... I have it on default right now.
Any ideas? sound familiar to anyone? I checked the chip, it is labeled as a 1 gig, although I just bought it so for all I know it really is a 750, but it should not be.
Oh and SiSoft's Sandra says it is perfroming at 750. (maybe because system told it to be a 750? I don't know)
Thanks for your help!!
Jeff

wcpuid will show the frequency and multiplier of the processor:
http://www.chip-online.com/downloads_updates/downloads_updates_getfile_1541.html

Front Side Buss multiplied by Frequency is the clock speed of your processor. So if your multiplyer is not locked (normaly it is locked on the chip) then you simpply select the proper multiplyer and FSB and ding! your in bussiness. If the multiplyer is locked then make suree the chip you bought is correct for your FSB. IF the chip is say a PIII 600EB then putting it on a 100MHz FSB would result in a chip running below it's rated speed. To be specific The multiplyer on a PIII 600EB is locked at 4.5 if you put this on a Board with a 100MHz FSB then you can only get 450MHz out of a 600MHz CPU (unless you have the option in BIOS of bumping up the FSB, but that's a whole nother forum all together) Just wanted to stick my 2cents in, I hope your mystery has been solved before you read this.

Most likely it is a jumper setting on the Motherboard either a voltage or an actual CPU jumper.
Look at your Motherboard manufacture site or your Motherboard Manual. Was the CPU you just took out replacing it with a 1ghz chip a 750mhz chip?
Phrost
