I just spent 90 minutes instructing someone how to fix the problem. When I go into msconfig the system.ini file is all jiberrish, I managed to trick it and add the line, which did get rid of the error message, but from when the error message first showed up, till now still his mouse is missing in normal mode, and is OK in safe mode. When we go into normal mode and try to foce a new driver from cab files onto the mouse it says (vmouse.VXD is corrupted.. I'll try do a selective recovery of that driver when he calls back, but so far no regitry restores or fixes has worked, and system.ini file is still jibberish in ost places. Could this be a virus? Is this a known problem? He says no peripheral devices are attached, and nothing has been installed to his knowledge. What IS GOING ON .. am I losing my mind?

Whoa, that happened to me last night... I called Dell tech support. It was crazy... and now my speakers aren't working, and I'm getting all sorts of Kernel32.dll and MMSystem.dll errors. Seems like somebody set us up the bomb.
