I am very confused, after spending hours on this i need some help!! I installed a USB mouse a few months ago, but when accessing safe mode its not available. I plugged the PS/2 mouse back in and it was not recognised. I checked BIOS, it says PS/2 mouse enabled there are no IRQ conflicts, and when installing it manually it doesn't work.
I have another PC, which the mouse works on, and have tried several other ps/2 mice also. This is the same mouse that I used before installing usb mouse.
I have checked all the drivers, and system.ini all ok and even copied the vmouse.vxd into the system file.
Its driving me nuts can anyone help??

chr1stine,
You can try going into Device Manager and removing your mouse. Reboot and re-install it.
Personally i never use a USB mouse in a USB port, i just use a USB to PS/2 adapter. They're very cheap if one didn't come with the mouse when you bought it.
good luck,
wiredsj

hi Wiredsj
Thanks for your response to my query, i have done that several times, i have give it another go but still no joy.
Believe me after this if i ever get it back the first thing i will do is get an adapter.
thanks again, if you have any other ideas it would be appreciated.
Christine

a couple possibilities,
the port is dead. using the wrong ps/2 port (keyboard instead of mouse)
does the keyboard work in safe mode? Is it USB? If it does, try removing the mouse in device manager while in safe mode. then restart with it connected.
in device manager what is listed under the [+]mouse? (safe mode)
just ramblings
;-) good luck

HI STAR
Thanks for your comments. The mouse is in the correct port I tried swapping them to see.
Keyboard works fine in safe mode (that is currently how i navigate) it is a PS/2 keyboard.
In device manager it shows my USB mouse, i did try uninstalling the USB, removing it from the USB port and restarting it with the PS/2 mouse and it didn't find it so i installed it manually and still nothing.
I will now try uninstalling all mice in safe mode and restarting with ps/2 mouse attached and not usb and see what happens, will post back when done.

ok, done all that. uninstalled all mice in safe mode (incl. usb) and restarted with just ps/2 plugged in, nothing. Installed ps/2 mouse driver manually using keyboard, nothing.
Just plugged in usb and Device manager has now just got HID-Compliant mouse, didnt even have to restart when usb plugged in found it straight away and installed driver for it.
