I upgraded from Win 98SE to ME a couple of weeks ago and all was well until yesterday when I started having problems booting up. Lots of BSODs! Managed to get back to 'Normal' but now when I boot up and also when I try to open several applications, I get a message that 'winspool.drv' is missing. I have searched my HD and it is not there and it is not on the Win ME upgrade CD. I believe this is a common problem with ME. Cam someone please help and email me a copy of the missing file or point me to a site where I can download it? Many thanks.

Winspool.drv should be in your c:\windows\system folder and it "should" be on your HDD in a spare capacity known as your cab files.
It actually lives in the Win_16.cab File, but looks like you need to be extracting the file and putting it in the system folder at c:\windows\system.

Now, that basically says to go to Start >> Run >> and type msconfig and click Ok. Look for the "Exttract File" button and click it.
Where it says "Replace file from" put EITHER.
c:\windows\options\install
or
c:\windows\options\cabs
And In "restore file to" put:
c:\windows\system
Try that first. You may get trouble because your on an upgraded ME. Post back if you do. You should be ok though.

Viking,
I just wanted to thank you deeply for your very instructive post that I was fortunate to come across two days ago. It helped to resolve almost instantly my pc's "winspool.drv missing" problem that has bothered me for almost one week. Thank you very very much.
Wharen
