i downloaded WMplayer 9 series codecs, at the end of installation a message popped up showing
"The SETUP_WM.exe File is linked to missing export kernel32.dll:getsystemwindowsdirectoryW."
which resulted in failure installation. i don't know what does it mean, but i m very much interested in installing the codecs.
What is kernel32.dll?
please help me out.
Thanks in advance.

Google that exact error. You'll get a few helpful hits.
Life is more painless for those who are brainless.

Not sure of the actual solution, but you can get the codecs without installing WMP9
"What is kernel32.dll?"
A Windows system file - generally error messages of that kind are due to a version mismatch - the file itself isn't missing, but an expected function of it cannot be initiated.
Somewhat coincidentally, I'd just installed WMP9 myself, onto Win98 - no problems - although likely a bit much for your hardware: recommended is 'a 500 MHz processor or faster'

hello Mr.JBoy,hello jennifer.

it worked well and no problem araised. Thanks Jboy for ur timely response.
i m very much interested in avi codecs to my wmplayer9 series.
does wmplayer supports avi codecs?
please suggest any other suitable player for that. it should suite my operating system.

some avi files are playing well on media player but some are not supported same case with real player.
while playing those files on media player, it shows connecting.. and then sending.. finally error loading it.

Windows Media Player is not my favorite application for viewing video - fortunately, there are plenty of alternatives (in no particular order):
IrfanView
ZoomPlayer
WinAMP
Nero ShowTime
DivX Player
AVI files are often compressed with either the DivX (5 or 6) codec or else XviD - once those are installed into Windows, any video software will work. The DivX player should work in any case
RealPlayer is something else again (and somewhat intrusive) - I prefer to use the RealPlayer Alternative (basically 'Media Player Classic' along with the necessary 'real' codecs)

y'day i solved the problem of AVI format, as i came to know that they r compressed with dIVX5.0 codec, i installed it,problem got fixed.
i installed the Divx5.0 player to play MP4 files as well, the video quality is poor. the installer specified it as trail version.
but with real player the same file played well.Aribindi

DivX5 is the highest version of that codec that can be installed on Win9x/ME - - once installed, you should be able to play files AVI files so encoded with pretty much any video player.
DivX6 cannot be installed on anything less than Win2K - for files compressed with that codec, you would be obliged to use the DivX player
Originally, I'd installed v2.6 of the player, then updated it to v6.0 - it was always freeware, although that may no longer be the case - it also seems that the latest version (v6.2) is no longer supported on Win9x/ME
