Are your sure you have compressed folders installed. Go to Control Panel,Add remove programs,Windows setup,System tools,Details, then check the box next to compressed folders, then click ok,then click apply, and then compressed folders will be installed on your computer.

Ok I had this problem. It usually happens when you've installed some other compression utility which has associated itself with ZIP files. Here's the solution. Go to Control Panel,Add remove programs,Windows setup,System tools,Details. Untick the Comressed folders box then click OK then click APPLY. Windows will then uninstall this utility and prompt you to restart. Restart your system then do exactly as above but this time tick the empty box. Compressed folders should once again be installed. To check right click on the desktop and goto NEW. You should see compressed folders.
