I recently went over 2GB of messages in my mailbox. It froze up and I continued to write more emails that would not send and just accumulated in the outbox. I was told to add a new mail box (mailbox 2) and set up that as default. All this went fine and is working. Problem is that the old mailbox No.1 has some messages in it in the outbox and each time I log into Outlook these messages are automatically re sent. Obviously continuosly sending the same message to people is annoying them. I cannot delete the messages.

What can I do to stop this ?

Thanks,

Jay600

Creating a new pst file is not the first step to solving this problem. There are other things that should be done that take minimal time.

First of all, open your old Outlook file while NOT connected to the net.

Clean out all folders of unnecessary information. That includes Deleted Items and Sent Items. Exit Outlook.

Restart the machine and then see how large the pst file is.

First thing you want to do then is compact the pst file. You can do that by right-clicking on your Outlook icon and going to Propertis and Data Files. Select the one that is the problem child and Settings. In that window check the Compact Mailbox option.

After you compact it, the size should be much smaller.

Then, reopen Outlook and set up the Auto-archive option. If you need details as to how to configure and use that option, email me, and I'll give you the information you need.

Thanks, Jennifer,

The problem is that I cannot do anything at all with the old mailbox. When I try to delete, it returns a message "unable to continue due to a messaging interface error".

What I have done is to move the old .pst file to another folder Outlook1 and now Outlook cannot find the file. It means I will have to move it back to the Outlook file when I want to read but I am stuck for a better alternative.
