Microphone problem

I have a problem with my microphone.I cnat get it to work on the internet with messager services or chat rooms. I cant make it work with my language learning programs. when i did the microphone test it says that it works, but it wont record me at any other time. I can only get it to work when I am doing straight recording on Acid. I have a Hewlett packard pavilion mx50 monitor with built in mic. my sound card is creative sound blaster audioPCI 128 (wdm). Please help me get a grip on my problems. thanks

hello open up sound increative sound blaster ,and or duble cick speaker icon in system tray.and see if the mikes volume is not muted or set to low have a nice day

I tried to adjust the volume. and it was indeed muted, but when i turned it up it made a terrible high pitched sound! so i dont know wahts wrong

Could be 'feed back' produced when the speaker volume is too loud or placed too close to the mic. Move the speakers away from the mic and turn down the speakers volume. Try the 'mic gain' set to low, and gradually increase it till it works without the feed back. If this works you can post back for others to see.

I tried moving the speakers away. I turned the volume up and the sound is gone. but my microphone still doesnt work.

Hello ... i ve had many microphones and none of them works on my compaq personal computer... its not muted or such... it just wont work... i hear my voice over the speakers... but it wont record my voice or nobody will hear it over the internet phones... its driving me nuts... if there is any help... thanks infront
