I've got a computer that has 2 memory slots. Each slot has 64mb pc100 sdram. Since me is so system intensive, can I upgrade this further by adding 1 stick of 128mb in one of the slots? I seem to recall that the slots needed to have the same amount in each. Though, I guess that is wrong, as the computer came with 1 stick of 64mb.

Also, could I use 1 stick of 256mb pc133? I don't know what the 133 refers to. Can it be mixed with pc 100.

I really enjoy this site, even with all the bickering. Its helped me improve my system performance and lead me to numerous helpfull web sites.

Thank you!

Check your motherboard manual. But i can tell you from past experience that you cannot mix different amount of memory. It has to be in pairs(64+64)(128 +128).Most PC`s will handle pc100 and pc133 only your memory will run at the slower 100 speed.

WindowsME has improved greatly for handling memory better then before versions. Right now I am running 398MB of PC133 in my WindowsME machine. Things work very well, and no problems. One thing you'll notice right away with adding more memory is the hard drive wont need to crank more. Programs will run a little more stable, more recourses.

PC100 means that this memory handles 100Mhz of information passing through it. PC133 is, of course, 133Mhz.

If your motherboard is PC100 for memory, you can use PC133. The memory of course will only operate at PC100. This is safe, and stable at the same time.

Also, your using DIMM slots, not SIMM slots. Back in the old days of 32pin memory stick, all things must match. Nowadays it does not matter. You can have 32,64,32 megs of memory in any slot, as long as the follow the 1,2,3 order of your DIMM slots.

Hope this helps you out bro

I went a different way with RAM. I bought PC150 this time out so I could turn my FSB way up. ME will on paper support 2 GB of RAM.
In reality it can only support 512MB or you will get an out of memory error. Typically you can mix and mach sizes (capacity)of mods. if you mix PC133 and PC100 if it does run it will only run at the slower speed. I do belive that you should check with the mother board maker spec sheet before buying your RAM. I allways use 128's since they are cheaper than the 256's and for me 256 is plenty. If you dig you will find that the preformance of PC133 compaired to 100 is negligable. If RAM didn't overheat from overclocking the proc. I would still be using PC100 untill Intel incorporates DDRAM with their chips. (I prefer Intel chipsets but I do wish that they were at AMD prices!)
Good luck and have fun pickin out your chips!

For what 128 mb of ram costs you may as well get 256 mb. Believe me it works in win me and improves things dramatically.
