I put a new motherboard in a friends computer, without reloading windows (ME). Everything worked out beautifully, except that Windows media player won't work. It gives a "0xC00D1198: Cannot connect to the server" error. Realplayer works fine, by the way. Tried to reinstall the codecs, and installed Media player 9 over itself again, but it still doesn't work. Not 100% sure if Media Player not working was coincidental with the motherboard change, or if it might have been when I removed some spyware, or installed Counterspy software on the computer that it quit working. Any ideas? Thanks!

error message 0xC00D1198" Please Post back to let us know if we helped "

The plot thickens. Due the the problem that I described, plus a new, unrelated problem (which I won't go into) I decided to format his hard drive, and load Windows XP (instead of the ME which he had). Guess what? He still has some of the same problems playing media files that he had before. One link still gives the error message described in the post above, and another will play, but won't stream. It will download the whole file to a temporary folder before playing it. And the obvious answer, that the issue is with the website, is no good, because I can play them just fine on my computer. The only difference I can figure, is that he is using MSN internet service, where I use Netzero, and I have XP pro, where he has XP home. We are using the same version of Media Player (9). We both are using only XP's firewall. Besides that, why would he have some of the same problem he had before, when he was running an entirely different operating system, and I did a clean install of XP? Can it be a hardware or bios issue? Or does it have to be a software issue, which, until now, I have been assuming has to be the case.

New Info:
Just figured out that the problem I'm having is with ASX files. Still stumped on how to solve the problem, though.
