Help!
I have a Digital HiNote VP745 Laptop - P266, 96MB memory

Recently, managed to screw up the OS - Win 95,tried to reinstall from CD, screwed up even more.

Went and bought ME, installed OK - noted a problem with PCI Bus controller, but hard drive works fine

ME won't recognize my CD-ROM drive, though. Won't even acknowledge it's there. It's a Torisan CDR_U200-Z. Worked fine under Win95, even works under ME DOS.

Can't find the model listed on the ME HCL on Microsoft's website, although it was supported on the Win98 HCL.

Anyone? Any thoughts would be much appreciated.

I'd try removing your HDC from the device manager
then reboot
even though there is no visible problem with your hard drive controller there still maybe a problem.

also go to the performance tab of the system properties box...

is anything there being reported as being in MS-DOS compatiblity mode?

this may be a sign that you need a BIOS update.

You might want to go to the CD-Rom company website and see if you can download a new driver for windows ME i had to do that with my printer

Thanks for all your input.

Tried deleting, then refinding hardware - no help.

CD-ROM manufacturer has no new drivers.

Finally gave up and used one of my "two free incidents" to call MS support.

As noted by newgrl, it is a problem with my BIOS - unfortunately, Digital was bought out by Compaq, and Compaq is not developing any further support for DEC products.

Thankfully, I was able to make a Win95 boot disk, delete all of the system & setup files from my hard drive, and reinstall Win95 from scratch. Things are just peachy now.

I will be able to get a refund for the ME software by sending it to Microsoft product returns program.

Thanks again for your help!

I have Windows Me and my CD-ROM says that it is a DOS CD-ROM. What do I have to do to make my computer to recognise my CD-ROM? Please respond.
