I have windows ME. I recently installed more RAM and then found out that ME will not hibernate with more than 192 RAM installed. Microsoft has a hotfix for this. Found the info at this site http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;Q296773&VOTE=1
Microsoft won't give me the hotfix without paying a fee and neither will the OEM. I love using hibernation and don't like having to shut down all running programs when I hibernate. That defeats the purpose of hibernation. Can anyone lead me to the hotfix for this? lwelch@catskill.net

I really do not know the difference between hibernate, standby, etc.

But I do know that I have 256 RAM, and my screen saver comes on in 15 minutes and the screen and the hard drive shut down in 30 minutes. It didn't always work that way, and I don't know exactly what I did to get it to work that way. And I didn't get a hot fix from MS for that, although I did get a hot fix for the "memory leak" problem.

If they have a hot fix for the problem, needle them for the fix via email. They'll make you jump thru hoops, but they'll give it to you. Do you really need it, or is there another way?

Call Microsoft and tell the Customer Service agent that you only want to request a hotfix as outlined in Q296773. That you have done your own troubleshooting and this is the only thing you want from them (Microsoft).

In cases that are classified as "bug", the recipient is not charged or the credit card is refunded.

I have 4 hotfix cases in my bin right now. As per instructions from the Customer service rep, if I determine that the case is not a "bug" issue and troubleshooting is needed, I am to return the customer to them to get a new case number and a $35 charge.

Be firm. Tell them you want the hotfix for Q296773. It shouldn't be that big of a deal.

Email support should work also.
