Comment:
I had taken my 3Com (3C509) NIC out of my computer a few months ago because it wasn't in use. I put it back in now and Windows ME won't detect that it is installed. It's an ISA version. I have an ISA modem so I swapped the slots and still nothing. The card is on because the lights are on. The modem works fine in either NIC slot. I have a 300 Watt power supply so I don't think it's a power issue. I have an Intel SE440BX-2 Motherboard with bios version 17. I think it's the latest. What gives? This thing worked fine when I took it out.
Did you look here?? http://support.3com.com/infodeli/tools/nic/3c509.htm Try the latest driver there or the detection utility found here>> http://support.3com.com/infodeli/tools/nic/index.htm jimi_l
Open up the control panel and click on system, device manager and then network adapters.Click on your nic card and then click properties. If all is well(ie the message"this device is working properly")then your all set.If a conflict shows click on the "driver" tab and follow the instructions to install the latest driver. good luck
If you downloaded the etherdisks from the 3com-webstite, there is a program on the second disk that you have to run(to remove the standard windowsdrivers) before installing your NIC in your computer. So pulle the card out, run the little program(I forgot the name, look in the documentation where you got the disks). Then, shut down, put the card in, boot, let windows detect it, intall it using the first disk for drivers. I didn't test it on winME, but that's how you have to do it on win98 and 98SE, I know of a cputer that just detected it fine when installing winME, so it should work. JOhan
