After formating my drive and instaling ME I have been unable to reboot. After switching on it goes through the usual checking screen the ME logo displays for a few seconds and screen goes blank and c drive runs for about 10sec then stops and I am left with a curser blinking in the top left hand corner.
I then turn it off and restart and go into the BIOS (andvanced )and change the config setting to yes and save and exit.It then reboots and goes to safe mode screen.I choose safe mode.It then installs safe mode. After reading some of other peoples problems I have tried msconfig but don't know what I am looking at.
Just before safe mode installs I get this mesage on the screen (Windows canot detect and install devices in safe mode .To detect and install devices restart and don't choose safe mode)
When I shut down windows in safe mode and restart I have to go through the same procedure again.
I would appreciate any help anyone could offer.

This "might" be a driver issue for a card/hardware you have installed...; either the OS can't find it - the driver, or the one you have provided is not ME compatible...

What happens if you remove any non-essential cards; i.e. strip down to a graphic card only...?

That it starts in safe-mode does incline me in this direction...; and also to the driver for the graphic card itself...?

Thankyou trvlr for your help. I changed the card and after a bit of mucking around it finally booted up.
I now have another problem with the display. It will only display 16 colours.I have tried loading new drivers that I d/loaded but it refuses to load them. I get this message every time that I boot up.
"You are using selective setup for troubleshooting your system".If you could help me again I would appreciate it.
Thanks again.

tells you how to get into selective start; and thus logically you disable it the same way...

Thanks again trvlr.I followed your instructions and fixed the problem.I didn't realise that I had selected that option when I ran msconfig, as I said I didn't really know what I was doing.I am still having problems with the colour so I installed another card. the colour is better but I still have only 16 colours.I tried the other links you gave me and have found some more drivers for the new card (Matrox ?)but was unable to download them at this time as the site was under repair or something like that.I will try again tomorrow. Thanks again for your help.

ps. Sorry for being such a pain.
