Hey,
I have a similar problem on an ME machine that i had on a XP machine before....can connect to ISP but will not load any page or transfer data at all... Some sort of registry problem... used the WINSOCKXPFix.exe tool and all was well....
Is there such a tool for lowely ole ME???
Please help!....Thanks!

Sure it works on ME and it's a winsock fix tool but you've given bugger all else to go on, so how do I know if it's what you want ?
Start removing the wrong bit's of winsock with that tool and you won't be doing anything apart from re-installing ME.
Have you been attacked by copious amounts of spyware recently, leaving you in this state ?

okay, heres the story....
i can connect to the ISP but cannot load a page ...its not transfering any bytes. I had a problem such as this on an XP machine and fixed it with the winsockxpfix.exe tool ...which i loaded and ran without any interaction and it fixed the problem. I didnt know if this worked the same way or not. Is this not a download and run tool? I am not sure if the system has been attacked or not, the user said something about installing spywareblaster maybe(?).

It's the wrong tool (at the moment) and you should be maybe looking at something like ...

This tool doesnt work like the winsockxpfix.exe tool? ...what does this tool do that i shouldnt run it? or better this way ....if i have checked all the tcp/ip, dns, checkboxes, etc and all is right, should the tool be used?

i have had a similar problem with windows ME/98 the program on the following page might help, it fixed my winsock 2 problem.

You would use LSPFIX to eradicate the "010's" in a HijackThis log file. Take a look at post # 43683 and responses 22, 23, 24, 25 etc. Read the section 010's in the log files.
So no, at the moment I'd say it's not the right tool for you. The quickest way to see would be to run HijackThis and look for those entries under "010". If there there then use the tool, if there not, then don't.
All the information about LSPFIX is on the original link I gave you. So I'd start looking into doing the manual 9x/ME fix above, if it's warranted of course.
I mean it, if you remove any legitimate stuff with LSPFIX you will more than likely be re-installing Windows ME as you won't be able to connect to the internet at all.

what about this w2fix.exe tool? any experience with this?

As well as "me (by solid_gold)", there is other independent confirmation that the tool works.
