Comment:
On a Dell PIII 500 Notebook I tried to upgrade from ME to XP. On the second option screen the system hung. Now on bootup the message 'NTLDR is missing'. The only option I have is F2 for BIOS settings. Am I overlooking the obvious? HELP !!!
boot from a win-me startup disk and at the a: prompt type sys c: press enter it will respond system transferred, take out floppy and reboot. this should solve that issue.
This article will explain what's going on and how to remedy the problem... which wx is correct about.
BTW... the Resolution is: 1. Restart the computer with a Windows 95 or Windows 98 Startup disk that contains the Sys.com file (this file is included by default).
2. At a command prompt, type sys c:. This command rewrites the Windows 95 or Windows 98 boot code with accurate BPB information.
3. Restart the computer to Windows 95 or Windows 98, and then attempt the Windows 2000 or Windows XP installation or upgrade procedure again.
