So i have a question? i can't reformat my computer to ME, which we had because my dad lost the product key #. He wants to get XP, the question i have is, when he buys XP can i upgrade from ME to XP even though my computer won't launch in ME. Just don't want us to buy XP and find out for some reason we need ME installed properly and all? I think there should be no problem, but then again, what do i know ,thanks for any help or suggestions... hopefully if we can do that i will never have to come on to this great site again. thanks again

If you purchase an "Upgrade" version of XP you can use it to do a clean instal as long as you have a valid ME CD (or earlier version). Use the XP instal disk to format your drive and when it asks for proof of previous version just insert your ME disk. It will not ask for the ME product key. The disk is proof enough.

Should have also mentioned you should consider getting more RAM. XP uses all of 128 just to run its own processes. 256mb works well on most systems.

Why not just find the product key for ME? It's on your computer...just retrieve it, write it down, & reinstall ME again. XP will run on your system but may be a bit sluggish with your older hardware, especially with just 128mb of RAM...see if this works for finding the key:
