You have a functioning ME machine? They should be in the WINDOWS\MEDIA folder (that's the way it is on my 98. I think it's the same with ME). Transfer them to your XP machine via disk. I'm not sure where their default location would be for XP but it shouldn't matter. Just create a folder and copy them there. Then browse there when you want to change the theme.

I sent my computer with ME OS on it to a friend in need. It never occured to me to copy the themes. Now, she is deceased and I would hate to have to bother her family.

You can either post back your emal (and then edit it out after I get it so you don't get spammed) or try sending me a private message with the address. Then I'll fire up the ME machine, copy them off and send them.

When you said 'themes' I was thinking just the ME sounds. But likely you mean the icons, background, etc. The sounds and background are no problem but I'm not sure if they differ from XP.
The icons are incorporated in the shelliconcache file. Sometimes icons you add later can be found elsewhere on the drive but the basic ones---my computer, my documents--seem to only be in shelliconcache.. I found some software that should be able to extract them from shelliconcache and will let you know how that goes.

I went to the shellicon file and they are not there.
Before I sent the computer to my friend, I had also installed XP on it and the "Mystery" theme worked real well. So, I do know that XP will allow the ME themes.
yes, I would like the themes with the accompanying sounds.

The windows\media folder on the ME machine had about 6 meg of files in it. All had the time and date stamp indicating they were from the ME installation and not third party add-ons. I'll zip that and send it. They are only the sounds.
I found some software called IconSucker that I should be able to use to extract the standard ME icons. I was working with it last night and found a few of them. But have you tried the XP 'classic' theme? The layout is almost exactly like 98 and ME.
Anyway, I should be able to send the ME sounds sometime today. Let me know if you want the icons too.

I really appreciate your help. The desktop theme I really would love to have is the "Mystery" (Sherlock Holmes type).
This version of XP really has no themes: just the pic of my kittten as a background, the sky and grass(Windows XP),
Windows Classic ( plain blue), then "more themes on line" and "Browse".I hope this all makes sense to you. This laptop came with Vista, which I really hate. So, I bought a copy of XP with SP2, bought a cd on ebay with XP drivers and cleaned the harddrive and installed XP.

I couldn't find anything on the ME machine that would give a mystery/sherlock holmes theme. I browsed the ME disk and couldn't find anything that would add that affect. I'm thinking that particular theme isn't an original part of ME and must have been added from a third party source. I found this
http://www.easyfreeware.com/freewar...
(down toward the bottom) 'The lost files of sherlock holmes' described as
". . .a desktop theme based on the show "The Lost Files of Sherlock Holmes: The Case of Rose Tattoo". It includes wallpaper, icons, cursors, animated cursors, and WAV sounds."
Is it something like that you're looking for? If that's not it then maybe if you could describe it more I might be able to find it.

OK, I think I found what you mean. It's something added via windows setup in add/remove programs in control panel. I'll see if there's any way to separate it out.

I went to that site, but it said page could not be found. I am sure you found it in set up. It looks like a scene in a "parlor" complete with bookcase and fireplace, if memory serves me right.
I really appreciate all this work you are doing for me.

I just sent the files that were added when I installed the mystery theme. Let me know if I missed any.
