Has anyone figured out the possible solution for the lack of proper shutdown when Me is installed. I tried the Clean Boot troubleshooting and came up with no clear answer. I have latest drivers and a fairly new system. Suggestions Folks?

Try pulling out your sound card and see if it shuts down. Sb cards have been causing problems. but you might want to pull all cards but video and see if you still have the problem.

Try getting a Pci or ISA video card and using that instead. That's if your Viper card is AGP. Usually when Agp cards have problems they seem to Lock the machine. Most the time when I have that problem I remove all the Add-on cards and stick in a old ISA video card to see if the AGP card is doing strange things.

Keep Trying.

My problem with ME shutdown seems to have coincided with the installation of McAfee Viruscan version 5. When I click shutdown the system hangs. When I do a CTRL-ALT-DELETE I see a program called Mdm that doesn't respond. However in each occasion it hasn't shut down I have had to either cycle the switch on the systems ATX power supply or do another three finger salute. And of course it's an intermittent problem. This morning it failed to shut down twice in a row but went fine the third time.

I read another forum in which an individual began to experience similiar problems after installing McAfee. He also tried Norton A/V with the same results.

When shuting down the PC running Me with an antivirus
product active I get a Windows Protection error. ScanDisk
is then executed after a reset. If I disctivate the antivirus then
all is OK.
I made a new Me install on a fresh disk, added only the
antivirus and shutdown the PC. All was OK.
I then installed Netscape 4.7. Then I started having the
Windows protection error problem when shuting down.
Is there a version of Netscape that runs on Me with an
antivirus active?

Is it the combination of an antivirus and Netscape, or Windows Me and Netscape, or
Windows Me and the antivirus?

Hope this help some. If you have any ideas then please let me know.
