ME screen lockup after new card install

I have loaded the detonater drivers for an Nvidia GeForce 256 card. I removed an existing voodo banshee 3 card and installed the Nvidia card. Now the logo screen appears briefly then a black screen with a flasing cursor. It is going into windows but the screen is not changing. Can I reset to a simple vga setup outside of windows to resolve this. Safe Mode does not work in this instance. Many thanks
