ME Scan Disk...go away!!!

Each time I turn on my PC, Scan Disk Runs...completes OK... and all my icons and start menu have dissapeared leaving me with no option but manually powering off and re-starting....only to start the whole procedure all over again...

There is no scandisk under Windows XP but a version of chkdsk for Windows XP.It is normal to get scandisk to work every time you reboot if you power off manually under Windows ME but Windows ME is a second choice if you dual boot with Windows XP.The XP should have the priority at boot time.You have a corrupted Windows ME setup or a corrupted dual boot installation.You can boot the Windows ME boot disk and try to restore the registry from dos to a previous date save: scanreg /restore If this fails you may have to do a clean install of your Windows system.Good luck.

Thanks, I apologise, I should have pointed out that The PC in question is a standalone Win ME machine (XP is my main PC) sorry!
