I have had to do a full re-install of Windows ME, after formatting the hard disk. All a bit frightening, but it hasn't gone too badly so far. One problem though is the display - it looks as if it's in Safe Mode, but it isn't. When I go into Display Properties, Settings - I can't change the Screen Area (it's on 640x440, ie over to the left) it refuses to change to "more". Display is set to "Default Monitor on Standard PCI Graphics Adaptor VGA. Am using Dell Inspiron 4000 Laptop.

What am I doing wrong please?

You need to install the correct drivers for
your display adaptor.

Windows is using it's default, hence
"Standard PCI Graphics Adaptor" which will
only allow 640x480 & 16 colour.

Do you have a driver disk that came with
your system?

BcpFizz, what has happened is this: Millennium Edition will provide you with generic drivers. Sometimes they work good, sometimes they don't. It's intent with generic drivers is to least allow you the capability of getting on the pc and change things if necessary. You need to find the correct "display adapter" driver for your pc and install it by means of "device manager". That's always worked for me. Drivers may be downloaded free at: http://driverguide.com/ All you need to do is register.

Thank you everyone, I read the Dell info and then installed the driver from the Dell disks I suddenly found!
