Depends on whether you have an upgrade CD or a full version CD. If you have the full version CD, you will have to format the hard drive and do a clean install of ME. Before doing so, backup all your important data and MP3s etc to another media eg ZIP You will also lose all installed programs. Also, take note from Device Manager, the makes and models of your video, sound and modem cards so that you can track down the new drivers for them. Look at "Install Guides" in the left hand column of this forum page. Krystyna

Yes it is possible , I upgraded a IBM aptiva 300 megahertz machine from 95 to ME and it went flawlessly , first backup any absolutely critical files . Then I would defrag the hardrive before starting so you know you going into a clean harddrive . Also if you are going to run ME I would have at least 128 meg of ram . It ran fine on a 300 mghz machine with 128 meg of ram , it did not seem any slower than 95 when running it , good luck .

You rename the win.com file and run a normal installation. This must be done from dos somake sure your cdrom dos drivers are installed

FYI for terence and Krystyna.... the full Retail versions of any Windows 9x OS will upgrade without altering any files. It will even prompt you as to weather you would like to upgrade or not when you put in the cd. It is only if you buy and OEM version of the OS that you will have to format or rename setupx.dll and win.com in order to upgrade.
