im helping a friend fix his computer. he runs on windows ME. when he starts up the computer the desktop background is white, there is no mouse cursor(but it is plugged in), and the icons look like its in safe mode. soemtimes a blue screen comes up with the following "A VxD, possibly recently installed, is causing a stack overflow problem. Increase the number of minSP's. Press any key to continue". how would i fix this problem?

You can increase the number of stack pages by doing this. Go to Start -Run - type in sysedit. A number of pages will open in a box. Click on the top of the System ini file to bring it to the front. Scroll down it until you find an entry {386nh}. Under that should be an entry MinSPs= the number will probably be 8, 16, or maybe 24. Whatever the number is increase it by 4. If the entry MinSps is not in the section {386nh} add it and make it =8. If this is not enough you can add to it later.
