system: amd 1.4, asus a7v266 mb, 256m ddr , 40 gig maxtor 7200 ata100, abit geforce2 64m video: had problems with BSOD, ended up fdisk and reformatting drive, now after booting from a win98 startup floppy, and trying to run window ME setup from CD, i get the scandisk with no error, it returns to the dos screen saying scaning registry, copy files needed for setup and then returns to the dos prompt. anyone ever see this?

I fdisk and formatted the HD into 2 20G partitions usiing the Maxtor maxblast util.
both partitions are formatted and have no files when doing a 'dir'.

ME hates Drive overlays. Is there a reason you are using the MaxBlast software... i.e: your motherboard will not recognize the 40GB hard drive without it?

Try booting from an ME boot disk rather
than a 98.

Try uninstalling the MaxBlast software and using fdisk and format to set up your drive.

The overlay software sits in the Master Boot Record. If it is interfering with the install, it could be causing your issue.

I think newgrl is on to something. Try re-creating your partitions with fdisk from the Win98 startup floppy.
