I bought my pc at Best Buy in 1999-2000, and it came with Windows ME pre-installed. It came with no Win ME CD or installation disk. Id like to reinstall ME, but I find that impossible because I have no CD. Ive even talked to tech support at microsoft and I was advised that no CD or ME disk was needed. Is there anyway I can reinstall ME? Or do you think I should just give up and buy a new pc?

In the Windows folder look for a folder named Options. It may have the setup files. If not you will have to find a CD with Windows. All versions from Win 95b or OSR2 to Win 98 or ME will do(do not choose an upgrade version because you are supposed to own the previous one).Win XP is more difficult to recommend because you need specific XP drivers for your hardware. These can be difficult or impossible to find for older hardware. With all the other versions you can probably use any drivers designed for 9X or ME without problems.Make a few phone calls in your area:look for computer stores selling used computers and software.Good luck.

hello look in c:windows/options/cabs/setup.exe if you have a folder full of cab files there and a setup.exe you can use them to make your own install cd by burning them to a cd but not in the folders there in. you will allso need a serial number. witch you have and can find in the reg. a search of this forum on finding searial number in m.e should get you what you need. you can allso just reinstall windows ontop of its self in /option/cabs/setup.exe by dubble clicking the setup.exe but shut all other things off first.and yu may need a serial number here too. this will reinstall windows files only replaceing any missing or damaged ones.and dose not normaly cause any data or program loose. but you should try the things in this link befor doing so how to run m.e well version 5 http://www.burzurq.com/forum/trevtweak.html
