one of my friends got a new hdd for his computer, mainly because his old one wann't working. the new hdd isnt the problem, it's the old one that I need to get the stuff off of. it hangs on the Win ME boot screen. i also cannot start in safemode...it says "keyboart error". is this hdd screwed, or is there some way that I can get it to run long enought to get the old stuff off?

thanks in advance
ANdy

The hard drive shouldn't report a keyboard error.

The Bios should.

Apparently you have a keyboard error.

the old one wasn't working....Logical

It's the old one I wish to get the stuff off of.

Are you trying the old one with his computer with the new one?

Is the new hard drive working properly?

How are you jumpers set for both hard drives?

Can't you install the old drive as cable select or slave.....as a second drive and copy the files you want to the new hard drive?

Yes,If you installed XP with NTFS- XP recognizes fat32.You were correct not to install XP with both drives in it
may have formatted both drives.

That has happened to me before..lost it all.

Piggy back the old drive on the new one. You can then copy the data to the new drive.
