ME Excel verses 2000 Excel

I am running a HP Pavilion 6746c
I installed Excel 2000 along with the spread sheet
program that came with the computer. When I click on the 2000 Excel
I get a blue screen. My question is are the two
compatable, if they are what can I do to get them both to work>

Did you download and install Office SR-1a??
Did you download and install all of the updates from the Windows Update Site???

No Because the computer is not hooked up to the internet and will not be for a while. What is SR-la, I have no Idea what that is?

Go to add/remove progs.
Select uninstall Office/Excel..
A menue will pop up..
Choose repair (have your Office CD in your CDROM)
