I would be grateful for some advice:
background is a laptop omnibook 6000
running under ME.
Unfortunately I visited a web site I
shouldnt and I believe I picked up a
virus,as the hard disk started clicking
vigorously between stops afterwardsI managed to make a limited backup,
before machine became difficult to
operate. It seems to override the screen
display settings, and blank the screen as
I ran norton systemworks to track down
the problem,. Unfortunately I may have
had the virus warning switched off before
visiting site - and did not have a firewall
installed!!Subsequent attempts to boot up windows
me have not worked becausea) vmm32.vxd is corrupted
b) if I create a temporary me boot partition
and then run SETUP prior to re-installing
ME over corrupted version, SETUP does
not work as the SCANDISK utility gets
bogged down in endless searches for
cross-linked clusters.I have run norton systemworks (Using
NAVXD) via bootup and it claims not to
find any viruses, although a test version of
INVIRCIBLE virus checker claims to find
'MAGISTAR.A' as a virus - although does
not correct it as its license has expiredCan you give any advice on how to get
windows me re-running without
reinitiliasing disk and losing data?I have
followed some of the guides on this web
site but to no avail
Is there any software that I can procure -
that runs from dos prompt to get me up
and running?any comments gratefully received
R Barrey
