Hi,
Here's the problem I have a pre installed etower computer, and on boot up it gives you the message about not making changes or decompilation or something like that. So that makes me think I can't add more memory. But I installed it anyway so now it shows the higher memory, but it gives me an error on initial start up -- I can't install through control panel/add hardware it doesn't detect it. How can it see it but not accept the device ?? Please advise

Thanks so much,

Angela Kuczek

hello
i take it you added anther stick of ram?was this bigger than the existing stick?
if so what slot did you add the new ram into?
largerst stick of ram should allways go into first slot and next largest int next slot.the no.1 slot would most likely be the one that had oridgenal ram in it.
unless you have a back wards compatable mother board most are not follow above advice. post back with more info thx

Also.. Ram usually gets picked up on its own. You should be trying to install it in add hardware. I know alot of people who install ram and cant get it working right. Here are a few of the common problems.

#1. They damage the ram because they are not wearing a grounding strap.

#2. They dont seat it properly.

#3. Its bad ram.

To solve them :

#1. Buy new ram and wear the grounding strap.

#2. Take it out and put it back in. You will probably be doing this anyway. This time stick the largest stick in the first slot like dave says. As a general rule i always match the sticks. Size and model. That way i dont get confused :).

#3. Take out the old ram. Stick the new ram in slot one and test it. If it dont show up.. its bad ram.

If it does show up stick the old ram in again and make sure it shows up. If it does yor in bizness. If the new ram doesnt show up by itself its bad ram. You may or may not be able to return it. Depends on the policy where you got it. Some of them wont warranty it unless they install it.
