Hey everyone.......
Ive been using this forum for ages and ive had ME for ages But.............
Youv'e gotta get XP.
Its great.

Well, I'll reserve judgement on that one. But quite frankly, I'm appalled that Microsoft would even dream of bringing an operating system on to the market that's riddled with security holes. In this day and age with viruses virtually writing themselves, Miscrosoft was highly irresponsible by bringing XP on to the market before testing it properly. See here for more info on that one.
There's also the matter of Smart Tags which is primarily an IE6.0 "enhancement (read= vulnerability), but because it's incorporated into XP, you're stuck with it as your default browser.
Don't get me wrong, I'm all in favour of new technology, but I think Microsoft is more concerned about lining their own pockets than creating a better world for us all to live in.

I must say I agree with Worm. I've never been a Microsoft fan myself and bringing XP to the market just made things worse. Apart from the security issues Worm mentioned, there is also the compatibility problem. I installed them, just for fun and the next thing I did was "format c:". Being a bit of a gamer I was disappointed I couldn't run games like Tony Hawk 2 or Need for Speed: Porsche Challenge (although I've heard you can make it work, but I didn't bother to fiddle around with that). There IS some sort of compatibility wizard, but it does exactly SQUAT (aka nothing :) ). In my opinion, there hasn't been any progress since Windows 98 SE.

Let's not forget how XP can turn a rabbit-fast machine into a something more like a snail on Valium!

in my opinion xp is the worst os since 95 was introduced. just to install it onto a blank hdd is a major effort and it should'nt be. compared to ME it's a snail. the internet
is as slow as hell, xp needs nearly 2 gigs hdd space to install to, thats way too much for an operating system. have a look in the xp forum before you decide to change, lots of problems and very few answers. i dont care what anybody says, ME has been good to me for two years, better than 98 ever was, so
i'm sticking with it as long as i can. i can't see any major advantage in xp that justifies it using 2gig hdd space and having
big bad bill dictate what i can and can't do with my machine.

I disagree stongly with you guys. I really like windows XP. I have not found any problems with it and the problems that were there like security issues were resolved. Every thing has problems when it comes out. I have a friend who uses Windows ME and her computer has been riddled with problems. My older computer with windows 98 ran smoother. I love the fact that windows xp is finally a really stable version of windows with no 16 bit code in it. That's what made the win 95 kernel so bad weas because it was hoaky 16 and 32bit code slapped together. But the NT kernel is also where I regeret a few things like certian games won't work with it...but they are always making new drivers to make it compatable.

Yeah, i agree with Puke - I've been running XP for months now without any problems that werent easily resolved, and I have to say - it's yet to crash, that's something that can't be said for other windows, and as for Windows ME - that is a tool of the devil, if theres a problem and you've got ME, ME itself is the problem. But anyway, yeah, XP does have compatibility problems with some games, such as Tony Hawk's, and such like, but it does have its upside of stability, improved reliability, and a generally much more comfortable feel. Also I disagree on slowing the system down - under XP my system runs much faster, smoother, and much more reliable than under 98SE, and I aint even gonna mention ME. A bad point though is definitely the monopolisation and removal of competition by good ol' Bill - Windows Messenger - built in Passport needed, Internet Explorer/Outlook Express 6.0 bundled after the courts decided it was wrong, but I use messenger anyway, so that's no big deal. Overall though, I'd say that installing XP is a good idea (if you have a prety big hard drive yeah), it's certainly stable, almost Linux matching, and much smoother running, and much more attractive. Shame you've gotta destroy the competition though Mr Gates...
