MBR Corruption

Just wondering as I have been in this position before with no antivirus running way back when, when:

1. U put in the boot disk and restart and
at the a prompt type: FDISK /MBR will
it still work if r not doing anything
else, such as adding an operating
system.

2. Can this command just be run as such and
then rebooted to work.

Thanks, read the Microsoft article and the Compaq techs told me to do the command when I use restore discs, which I do they state it wipes out the master boot virus if u have one.
